MAGIQ Illinois Guitar Quartet Concert Feb. 15 at Sandburg

GALESBURG — Classical guitar takes center stage at Carl Sandburg College during the MAGIQ Illinois Guitar Quartet’s concert at 7 p.m. Feb. 15 in the Fine Arts Theater (Room F118).

The ensemble comprises four Illinois-based guitar professors: Michael Patilla (Sandburg), Angelo Favis (Illinois State University), Guido Sanchez-Portuguez (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Isaac Lausell (Southern Illinois University Carbondale). Their repertoire explores an array of contemporary and classical languages through works of their own as well as other composers.

The group formed last year and made its debut at the U of I in October. It also is scheduled to perform this year at SIU and with the Edwardsville Symphony. The members also will be the featured performers and clinicians for the Midwest Guitar Ensemble Festival in March at ISU.

Tickets for the concert are $5 and can be purchased at the door the evening of the event. Admission is free for Sandburg students, faculty and staff with their college ID.
